At Musikmesse and Prolight + Sound 2019: Music Tech Fest Frankfurt with Trackathon and Innovation Masterclass
Musikmesse and Prolight + Sound are bringing the Music Tech Fest to Frankfurt and offering a complementary programme of events revolving fully around the subject of innovation. The programme includes a methods workshop with composer Reeps One, Artist in Residence at the World Economic Forum, and Michela Magas, Innovation Consultant to the European Commission. Additionally, up-and-coming musicians and producers will create new music in a 24-hour Trackathon under the guidance of composer, producer and consultant for immersive technologies Martine-Nicole Rojina.

The whole world of entertainment technology and music business is coming together at Prolight + Sound and Musikmesse in Frankfurt am Main from 2 to 5 April 2019. For the first time since 2015, the two trade fairs are being held concurrently on all four days and, for visitors from the professional audio sector in particular, will offer a variety of new highlights and product innovations from the industry’s key players.

As part of Musikmesse and the Musikmesse Festival, the ‘Ultimate Jam’ on 2 April 2019 presents an all-star band revolving around drummer and musical director Jost Nickel (Jan Delay, etc.). Music of the highest standard is guaranteed by star guests ex Prince bassist Ida Nielsen, Dead Daisies bass player Marco Mendoza and former The Who keyboarder John ‘Rabbit’ Bundrick.
Musikmesse and Prolight + Sound 2019: Sample Music Festival Area with top brands, workshops and showcases
Musikmesse and Prolight + Sound are joining forces with the organisers of the Sample Music Festival for the first time to bring together top brands, such as Akai, Denon DJ, RANE, Ortofon and Mixars in a special area at Foyer Hall 4.0. Other companies, including Ableton and Native Instruments, will show their latest products within the framework of workshops and product demonstrations. Well-known artists from the electronic music scene, among them Beat Matazz, Clockwerk and S-Trix, will give visitors the chance to look over their shoulder at workshops and showcases. Musikmesse 2019 presents ‘The World of Vintage Guitars’ in cooperation with No.1 Guitar Centre Hamburg and Gibson USA
Legendary guitars, a journey back in time through the history of famous brands and top events with stars of the music scene: ‘The World of Vintage Guitars’ is the highlight for all guitar fans at Musikmesse 2019 (2 to 5 April) and the new Musikmesse Plaza (6 April). Together with No. 1 Guitar Centre Hamburg and with the support of Gibson USA, visitors can look forward to an impressive special exhibition covering around 200 square metres. At the ‘Les Paul Night’ on Friday evening (5 April), the Thomas Blug All Star Band with, among others, Scorpions’ guitarist Matthias Jabs will perform rock classics from three decades.

Musikmesse looking for ‘the most unusual musical instrument of the year’
Calling the creative musical-instrument and handicrafts scene: Musikmesse is looking for ‘the most unusual musical instrument of the year’ – an expert jury will select the three most original instruments. The awards will be presented during Musikmesse 2019 in Frankfurt am Main (2 to 5 April 2019).
Different but outstanding: German Musical Instrument Award for David Jünger, Buffet Crampon and Kühnl & Hoyer
Good dynamics, excellent sound, exceptional handling. This year’s German Musical Instrument Award puts the spotlight on three outstanding yet completely different musical instruments. In the steel-string guitar (flattop, 6 strings), the winner by a clear margin was the MID-standard model by young guitar maker David Jünger. With all entries in the B♭ trumpet section setting a very high standard, the two winners, the B&S MBX ‘Heritage’ by Buffet Crampon and the ‘Topline G’ by Kühnl & Hoyer, achieved the same number of points.
Jury of the ‘New Therapy Instruments’ competition at Musikmesse 2019 chosen
Messe Frankfurt and the German Music Therapy Society (DMtG) are holding the first competition to find the best instruments for therapeutic use at Musikmesse 2019 (2 to 5 April). Instrument makers, artists and music therapists are invited to enter their concepts for the ‘New Therapeutic Instruments’ competition. A six-person jury, which the organisers are now pleased to announce, will select the winners.
Musikmesse and Prolight + Sound 2019: registration for buyers’ benefits programme ‘Insider’ now open
The ‘Insider’ programme offers a variety of benefits for buyers: from free admission on all four days (2 to 5 April) and cloakroom service to personal on-site support. In 2019, the Insider programme is open for the first time to buyers of both Musikmesse and Prolight + Sound and purchasing decision makers from the music and event sectors can now register as ‘Insiders’.

Prolight + Sound and Musikmesse 2019: world première of the ‘Vintage Concert Audio Show’
Retro-sound and analogue warmth: at the coming Prolight + Sound and Musikmesse (Frankfurt from 2 to 5 April 2019), visitors will have the opportunity to see and hear milestones of four decades of concert PA systems at the first ever ‘Vintage Concert Audio Show’. Over 200 exhibits on a special-show area in Forum.0 will present PA systems from the sixties, seventies, eighties and nineties. On the Saturday following the two trade fairs (6 April), the ‘Vintage Concert Audio Show’ will go into extra time at the new ‘Musikmesse Plaza’ pop-up market.
Frankfurt Music Prize 2019 goes to Quatuor Ébène
The French Quatuor Ébène string quartet is the winner of the Frankfurt Music Prize 2019. The award is given annually within the framework of the Musikmesse trade fair in Frankfurt and honours personalities who have made a special contribution to the international music scene and culture. The presentation ceremony will be held in St. Paul’s Church, Frankfurt, on 5 April 2019.
Dr Hendrik Müller appointed Director Marketing Communication for Musikmesse and Prolight + Sound
Dr Hendrik Müller (37) has been appointed Director of the Marketing Communication Department of Musikmesse and Prolight + Sound with effect from 1 October 2018. Accordingly, he is now responsible for the strategic conception, development and implementation of all marketing and communication measures relating to the company’s worldwide activities for the Entertainment, Media & Creative Industries Business Unit of Messe Frankfurt. He reports to Michael Biwer, Group Show Director, Entertainment, Media & Creative Industries.

For the highlight of a week full of music, Frankfurt will move all faders to full blast with new Musikmesse Plaza – an innovative event concept aimed at musicians and music lovers. It will be held for the first time in the eastern section of Frankfurt Fair and Exhibition Centre on Saturday, 6 April 2019 – immediately after Musikmesse and Prolight + Sound (2 to 5 April 2019).

Messe Frankfurt and the German Music Therapy Society (DMtG) will hold the ‘New Therapy Instruments’ competition on the occasion of Musikmesse 2019. Instrument makers, artists and music therapists are invited to develop and implement ideas for new instruments and sounds. The awards ceremony will be held during Musikmesse in April 2019. The award is worth € 2,000.
