The Politics of Failure
In his lecture Patrick Woodroffe will dig deep into The Politics of Failure. He will explain how he has faced failure in his career and how he survived the consequences. And why it is that we all fear failure more than we celebrate success. This is a talk full of stories about the misses and near misses in Patrick’s long and illustrious career!
Woodroffe began his career in lighting in the mid Seventies and over forty years has lit and directed productions for many artists including ABBA, Bob Dylan, The Police, Take That and many more. In 2012 Woodroffe lit the opening and closing ceremonies for the London Olympic Games. In 2013 he was made a Royal Designer for Industry by the RSA and he was awarded an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the 2014 Birthday Honours for services to the arts.

In his lecture, Kay Voges describes his work at the boundary between theatre, stage and digital media – and identifies the institutional boundaries for this vital work in the contemporary theatre system. He also presents his plans to establish an “Academy for Theatre and Digitality” in Dortmund, which are nearing completion.

3. April from 15.00 to 16.30 hrs in Hall 4.1, Speakers Corner and Speakers Desk
From instrument makers and studio engineers to sales talents, marketing specialists and stage architects, the event sector is urgently looking for young recruits. The Career Day organised by the SOMM and VPLT associations will be held at the Speakers’ Corner and Speakers’ Desk in the Networking Area (Hall 4.1) and bring together potential trainees with exhibitors. Prior registration is not necessary.
In five-minute presentations, companies of the musical-instrument and event-technology sectors will offer creative insights into their spheres of activity for students and trainees, as well as fully-trained personnel considering a new challenge. Subsequently, candidates have time to hold individual speed-dating discussions with companies they consider suitable.
This gives candidates and HR managers an opportunity to get to know each other in sessions lasting max. five minutes. The best applicants will be given a ‘wild card’ and be invited to an interview at the exhibition stand during Musikmesse / Prolight + Sound and a second interview at the company’s offices afterwards.

European Musical Instrument Dealer Awards
The EMIDA – European Musical Instrument Dealer Awards are bestowed within the frameworks of the Musikmesse to the best specialized music retailers from Europe. In a total of four categories, international companies from the musical instrument sector are acknowledged for their outstanding achievements with an award and € 15,000 prize money. The ceremony will take place during the Musikmesse Executive Night on Tuesday (2 April 2019).More about EMIDA
