Ash Soan, Karl Brazil and more: first artists confirmed for the 2018 Musikmesse Drum Camp

Dec 19, 2017

Drum Camp is the Musikmesse highlight for everyone with an interest in playing the drums. And, in 2018, the third edition of Drum Camp will present exclusive performances by top musicians, as well as workshops and autograph sessions. The drummers will perform daily in the ‘Blood, Sweat & Tears Box’ in Hall 9.0 – a sound-proof cabin covering an area of around 70 square metres and fitted with ultra-modern event technology. There, visitors can get closer to the stars than at any concert.

The line-up of the 2018 Drum Camp 2018 is already taking shape with confirmations from Ash Soan (Adele) and Karl Brazil (Robbie Williams, James Blunt) – the holders of first and second places for studio session drummers on the MusicRadar ‘Best in Drums’ list for 2017. They will be joined by Ralf Gustke, who played with the ‘Söhne-Mannheims’ band for many years, and drum trainer Patrick Metzger, renowned for his work as a member of Beatrice Egli’s touring band.

Ash Soan

With his grooves, Ash Soan has been the driving force behind over 50 hit albums by, inter alia, Adele, Cher, Seal, Billy Idol, James Morrison, Celine Dion and Ronan Keating. Born in the south of England, Soan is more in demand than virtually any other drummer in the world.

Karl Brazil

Back in Frankfurt – only two days after accompanying megastar James Blunt on his ‘The Afterlove Tour’ of Asia. For the first time running, Karl Brazil will rock the Musikmesse Drum Camp. Top musicians including Robbie Williams, Elton John and Christina Aguilera rely on the sophisticated playing of the UK-born drummer, both on the stage and in the studio.

Ralf Gustke

For many years, he was a permanent member of Germany’s ‘Söhne Mannheims’ band. He was also the musical director for several tours by soul singer Xavier Naidoo. The reference list of the Heidelberg-born drummer is long and includes live and session work with national and international artists such as Gianna Nanini, Schiller and Nena.

Patrick Metzger

Born in Mannheim, Patrick Metzger tours the whole German-speaking region as a highly regarded drum coach and, since 2013, has also been laying down the rhythm in Beatrice Egli’s band. He has also played with international artists such as Bobby Kimball, Tina Turner and Chris de Burgh.

Additionally, the coming Musikmesse will also see the continuation of the successful Guitar Camp with daily performances by internationally renowned guitarists. The first confirmed names are Jeff Waters (Annihilator), Mattias ‘IA’ Eklundh (Freak Kitchen), Alen Brentini (Andreas Gabalier) and Nick Johnston.

Performances, workshops and autograph sessions at the Drum Camp and Guitar Camp are free of charge for all Musikmesse visitors.
